NOTES FROM THE ROAD

Pack less. Remember more: the weekend road-trip list

A neatly packed car boot ready for a weekend road trip.

A practical packing system for a few good days away.

Keep the essentials reachable

Carry the documents required for your journey, a charged phone, charging cable, water and any essential medicines. Keep what you need at a stop accessible without unloading the entire boot.

Prepare the car before the bag

Follow the vehicle manual for checks and maintenance. Check tyres, lights, fluid levels and the condition of the spare or repair kit as appropriate. Packing more equipment does not compensate for a vehicle that needs attention.

Build around layers and repeat use

Choose clothes for the forecast and allow for changes in temperature. A reusable bottle, a small rubbish bag and comfortable footwear earn their space. Avoid packing for every imaginable activity when your route only calls for a few.

Put safety ahead of convenience

Check what emergency equipment and documents are required where you will drive. Keep a suitable first-aid kit accessible. If travelling with children, check that their restraint arrangements are appropriate before departure.

Use a checklist, then personalise it

Our Packing Checklist includes weekend, longer-trip, camping, family and EV variations. Add your own essentials and print a copy if helpful. Browser storage is a convenience, not a substitute for checking the actual items.
