NOTES FROM THE ROAD

The scenic route is a choice, not a race

A quiet winding forest road with soft morning light.

Make space for a slower road without turning the day into a marathon.

Choose the experience you want

A coastal road, a mountain pass and a countryside loop offer different kinds of days. Start with the landscape and the pace you enjoy, then check that the route fits your vehicle and available time.

Check official information first

Seasonal closures, access restrictions and weather can change whether a road is suitable. Consult the relevant road authority or park operator before departure. An attractive photograph is not evidence that a route is open.

Allow for lower average speeds

Curves, villages, passing places and viewpoints make scenic roads slower. Calculate a realistic moving-time estimate and add stops separately. If the total fills the whole day, shorten the route rather than trying to rush it.

Plan stops you can use safely

Stop only where it is legal and safe. Never park in a running lane or stand on a blind bend for a photograph. A passenger can help note potential viewpoints so the driver can focus on the road.

Leave room to turn back

Conditions and energy levels matter more than completing a line on a map. Keep enough time and fuel or charge to take an easier alternative. The best route is the one you can enjoy responsibly.
